Tuesday, April 16th at 8pm – Concert at Hilton Reykjavík Nordica

This year’s festival starts with a bang. Emil Arvidsson, who many claim is one the best blues artists in Scandinavia. Blues fans know him as the leader of Emil & The Ecstatics, but tonight he’ll be performing with friends Erik Qvick, Þorgrímur Jónsson and Vignir Stefánsson. Concert guests are in for treat. Before the intermission, Davíð Þór Jónsson, Guðmundur Pétursson and Þorleifur Gaukur Davíðsson will be performing what they’ve named Fantasy Overture. Músíktilraun is an annual music award for young artists. At this evening’s concert we’ll kck things off with a special appearance by the band awarded the “bluesiest band” at Músíktilrauna 2019.

Wednesday, April 17th at 8pm – Concert at Hilton Reykjavík Nordica

After years of trying, the Reykjavík Blues Festival is proud to announce that the legendary Joe Louis Walker is coming to Iceland. Joe Louis Walker is one of today’s most respected contemporary Blues artists and in great demand at Blues festivals around the world. It’s a great honor to have him at this year’s Reykjavík Blues Festival. He’s looking forward to coming and he’ll be playing with the Blue Ice Band. Joe Louis Walker is a Grammy Award winning artist and has received the Blues Music Award, four times. Before the interval, the band, Strákarnir hans Sævars, will be rockin’ the blues.

Thursday, April 18th at 8pm – Concert at Hilton Reykjavík Nordica

The Blues Ice Band is celebrating its 30th Anniversary with a blues party! It’s a celebration and will include some if Iceland’s finest blues players. A number of special guests, including Andrea Gylfadóttir, Davíð Þór Jónsson, Þorleifur Gaukur Davíðsson, Rubin Pollock and Pétur Tyrfingsson will be appearing with Halldór Bragason, Guðmundur Pétursson, Jón Ólafsson and Ásgeir Óskarsson tonight. This is going to be a party to remember. The band, GGblús (Guðmundur Jónsson and Guðmundur Gunnlaugsson) will be performing before the interval and Uncle John Jr. will start the evening.

 

The afterhours Blues Club is an essential part of the Reykjavík Blues Festival and it’s always hoppin’. Mixing old timers and young, it’s a place where anything can happen and special guests appear regularly. You won’t be disappointed.

The 2019 Reykjavík Blues Festival will officially open with “Blues Day” on Saturday, April 13th on Skólavörðurstígur in the city center. This sets the tone for the festival and includes live blues, the one and only Svanur Marching Band, classic cars provided by the Krúser Club, and food straight off the barbecue from 2pm – 3pm. The Reykjavík Blues Society will announce the 2019 winner of the Honorary Member Award.

At 4pm, there will be live blues at the Public Library, Borgarbókasafn.

Tuesday, March 27th at 8pm – Concert at Hilton Reykjavík Nordica

Laura Chavez and Ina Forsman – Beggi Smári and Nick Jameson – “Bluesiest band” from the Músíktilraunir. Músíktilraunir is an annual music award for young artists. At this evening’s concert we will have a special appearance by the band awarded the “bluesiest band” at Músíktilraunir 2018.

The Reykjavík Blues Festival starts off with a bang! Ina Forsman took the blues world by storm and has captured attention for her artistry and her vocals, which are silky smooth and rough at the same time. Laura Chavez is an amazing guitar player, and is said to be one the best in contemporary blues. Deeply rooted in both Texas and Chicago blues traditions, Chavez plays with soul, intensity and depth and has captivated audiences worldwide with her performances.

Beggi Smári and Nick Jameson will be on the main stage before the interval, accompanied by Friðrik Júlíusson on drums, and Pétur Sigurðsson on bass. Expect a great time – these guys will make you want to clap your hands, stomp your feet, and get up and dance. Opening will be the „Bluesiest band“ from Músíktilrauna 2018. Hold on to your hats!

Wednesday, March 28th at 8pm – Concert at Hilton Reykjavík Nordica

Larry McCray and The Blue Ice band – Langi Seli og Skuggarnir – Lúðrasveitin Svanur

Guitarist, singer and songwriter, Larry McCray has been one of the leaders in American Blues for the past 25 years. Larry has been awarded the Orville H. Gibson Male Blues Guitarist of the Year award and the Top Guitarist prize in International Blues Matters’ 2014 writer’s poll. We’re excited and honoured to have him at this year’s festival and it’s sure to be a performance we’ll all remember. The Blue Ice Band will be performing on stage with him.

Langi Seli og Skuggarnir will be performing before the interval and they’ll treat guests with both old songs and new. But, before they take to the stage, the sound of brass will rule the venue. Lúðrasveitin Svanur will opening with a spunky New Orleans blend of music. That’s a recipe for a good time!

Thursday, March 29th at 8pm – Concert at Hilton Reykjavík Nordica

The best of Icelandic Blues

We can’t go wrong with this group of musicians. It’s a celebration and includes some if Iceland’s finest blues players. We’ll kick off the evening with Tryggvi Hübner and the band, Haraldur Þorsteinsson on bass, Ásgeir Óskarsson on drums and Magnús Jóhann on keyboard. These guys are legends in their own right and you can be sure you’ll feel the groove!

After the interval, more stellar performances by: Björgvin Gíslason, Sigurður Sigurðsson, Davíð Þór Jónsson, Guðmundur Pétursson, Óskar Logi, Stefanía Svavarsdóttir, Halldór Bragason, Róbert Þórhallsson and more. This stage will be jam-packed with the crème de la crème of the most prominent Icelandic musicians on the blues scene. It can’t get any better than that!

Tuesday, April 11th at 8pm – Concert at Hilton Reykjavík Nordica

KK Band. Icelanders love the KK band and the way they play the blues. The band includes musicians KK, Þorleifur Guðjónsson and Kormákur Geirharðsson and their unique style and riveting performances captivate audiences every time. This concert will include some of their most famous songs, including hits from the albums Lucky One, Bein leið and Hótel Föröyar.

Berklee Blues Band. The very talented harmonica player Þorleifur Gaukur will be playing alongside his fellow musicians from the prestigious Berklee College of Music. These energetic and highly talented musicians brought the house down at last year’s festival and are back by popular demand. The Berklee Blues Band includes Þorleifur Gaukur, harmonica; Hunter Burgamy guitar; Colescott Rubin, bass and Sam Palermo on drums.

“Bluesiest band” Músíktilrauna. Músíktilraun is an annual music award for young artists. At this evening’s concert we will have a special appearance by the band awarded the “bluesiest band” at Músíktilrauna 2017.

Wednesday, April 12th at 8pm – Concert at Hilton Reykjavík Nordica

Noah Wotherspoon and the Blue Ice Band.  Noah Wotherspoon was the recipient of the Best Guitarist award at the International Blues Challenge in 2015 and at this year’s Reykjavík Blues Festival, you will certainly find out why! He’s phenomenal on stage and nothing can hold him back. The Blue Ice Band, which includes Róbert Þórhallsson on bass, Birgir Baldursson on drums, Guðmundur Pétursson on guitar and Davíð Þór Jónsson on the Hammond, will be accompanying Noah on stage. This is something you don’t want to miss – it’s bound to be an electrifying and unforgettable performance!

Göran Svenningsson. From Gothenburg, Sweden, guitarist Göran Svenningsson has been playing the blues with some of the best since he was a very young man. Göran has played with the most prominent blues musicians in Sweden as well as a number of American blues musicians. Accompanying Göran will be Erik Quick on drums and Þorgrímur Jónsson on bass.

Thursday, April 13th at 8pm – Final concert at Hilton Reykjavík Nordica

Andrea‘s Bluesmen. Andrea Gylfadóttir‘s extraordinary Bluesmen include Guðmundur Pétursson on guitar, Haraldur Þorsteinsson on bass, Jóhann Hjörleifsson on drums and Einar Rúnarsson playing the Hammond. This tight-knit and accomplished group of musicians can‘t go wrong.

Blúsbræðingur Before the intermission we‘ll get to witness a fusion of top class musical talent when Óskar Logi Ágústsson, Davíð Þór Jónsson and Ásgeir Óskarsson come together on stage. The outcome is bound to be spectacular.

Uncle John Jr. The final evening concert kicks off with a performance by Uncle John Jr. on acoustic guitar.

1st concert at the Hilton Reykjavík Nordica Wednesday, March 23rd at 8pm

Chicago Beau and The Blue Ice Band, Sigurgeir Sigmundsson & The Dream Band and Primecake

The Reykjavík Blues Festival will start with a bang when Chicago Beau, the festival’s honorary guest, steps on the stage with the Blue Ice Band. Chicago Beau was a frequent guest here in Iceland between 1991 and 1995 when he toured with the Blue Ice Band in Europe and North America. This reunion gives blues enthusiasts a chance to relive the magic.

Before the interval Sigurgeir Sigmundsson & the Dream Band will be entertaining the audience with songs from their newly released album along with classic Deep Purple and Gary Moore songs. The Dream Band includes musicians: Ásmundur Jóhannsson (drums), Jóhann Ásmundsson (bass), Þórir Úlfarsson (keyboard) and Páll Rósinkranz (vocals).

Representing the up and coming new bands is Primecake. A perfect beginning to a great festival.

2st Concert at the Hilton Reykjavík Nordica, Thursday, March 24th at 8pm

Karen Lovely and Jonn „Del Toro” Richardson, Þorleifur Gaukur and the Berklee youngbloods and Reykjavík Hipshakers

The very talented harmonica player Þorleifur Gaukur will be playing alongside his fellow musicians from the prestigious Berklee College of Music. Calling themselves the The Berklee Youngbloods these energetic and highly talented musicians will be kicking off the concert and warming up for Candye Kane and Laura Chavez.

The evening starts with The Reykjavík Hipshakers. This big band will be entertaining the audience with Boogie Woogie and Jamaican Ska with a dash of brass. Blues with a twist.

3rd concert at the Hilton Reykjavík Nordica, Friday, March 25th at 8pm

Great Icelandic Blues

The final evening concert will be an extravaganza with the crème de la crème of Icelandic blues artists as headliners. Amongst the performers are Andrea Gylfadóttir, KK, Ragnheiður Gröndal, Halldór Bragason, Guðmundur Pétursson, Björn Thoroddsen and many, many others. It’s a celebration of the blues, with love from Iceland.

You’d be hard pressed to find a band as rough and trendy as Hráefni. These musicians will be kicking off the finale this evening with Valdimar Örn Flygerning (vocals and guitar), Þorleifur Guðjónsson (double bass) Bergþór Morthens (guitar) and Þórdís Claessen (drums). Need we say more?

In keeping with tradition, the festival will open with “Blues Day” on Skólavörðurstígur in the city center on Saturday, March 19th.  This sets the tone for the festival and includes live blues, barbequed ribs, bacon and hotdogs from 2pm – 5pm.  News  Due to unforeseeable circumstances, changes have been made to the Reykjavík Blues Festival events schedule. Blues diva, Karen Lovely and Jonn „Del Toro” Richardson, will be the headliners at the March 24th Hilton Nordica concert. They will be stepping in for Candye Kane and Laura Chavez, who had to cancel their appearance because of Candye Kane‘s health issues.
It’s a stroke of luck to have Karen Lovely at this years’ festival. She is one of the brightest stars on the American blues scene and amongst the best blues vocalists around. Jonn Richardson is a multi-award winning guitarist who has developed his own signature style; blues with a pinch of South American spice.

Headliners at this year’s festival include:

Björgvin Gíslason’s Bluesband. The legendary guitarist Björgvin Gíslason is joined by other top musicians to form the Björgvin Gíslason Bluesband. This is an event that you don’t want to miss!

Músíktilraun 2015 is an annual music awards for young artists. At this evening’s concert we will be treated to a special appearance by the award’s “bluesiest band”.

Wednesday, April 1st at 8pm – Hilton Reykjavík Nordica

Bob Margolin, Bob Stroger and the Blue Ice Band. In commemoration of Muddy Waters’ 100th birthday The Reykjavík Blues Festival is proud to have both Bob Margolin and Bob Stroger on the main stage. Bob Margolin played guitar in Muddy Waters’ band from 1973-’80 and he delivers exciting Blues guitar and an entertaining, friendly stage presence. In 2013, he was nominated for The Blues Foundation’s Blues Music Award for Traditional Male Blues Artist and won Blues Music Awards for guitar in 2008 and 2005. Bob Stroger is without a doubt one of the best bassists in the history of the blues. His musical talent, showmanship and class are legendary. He’s played with most of the best known blues musicians and was nominated for the best blues bassist in 2011 and 2013. The Blue Ice Band will be accompanying Margolin and Stroger on the main stage and many other Icelandic blues musicians will be putting in appearances.

Thursday, April 2nd at 8pm – Hilton Reykjavík Nordica

Debbie Davis is one of the most influential female blues artists of past decades and she’s a multiple award winning guitarist. Whether performing with her own band, or on stage with other world renowned blues musicians, Debbie is bound to give the audience a show to remember. Debbie Davis will be accompanied by The Blue Ice Band.

Vintage Caravan drove the crowd crazy at their debut at the Reykjavík Blues Festival a few years ago. It was an electric performance and since then, they have been touring around the world. This year, they will be returning to the festival better than ever! Other guests at this evening’s concert include various Icelandic blues musicians.

The Blues Company. Magnús Eiríksson and Pálmi Gunnarsson with guest KK will fire up the audience at this year’s Reykjavík Blues Festival. The band also includes Agnar Már Magnússon, Benedikt Brynleifsson,Óskar Guðjónsson and Kjartan Hákonarson. Magnús and Pálmi have led The Blues Company for almost 40 years and this band just keeps getting better.
Tregasveitin led by father and son Pétur Tyrfingsson and Guðmundur Pétursson will be debuting new material at this evening’s concert.

Also appearing at this evening’s concert will be a number of promising young and talented new artists from Iceland.

Wednesday April 16th at 8pm. – Hilton Reykjavík Nordica
Victor Wainwright.
Victor is a raucous, powerful performer and the winner of various awards, including the 2013 Pinetop Perkins Piano Player of the Year award. Though his career began with genuine honky-tonk rock n’ roll, Wainwright has broadened his artistic scope over the years and today his music represents virtually every corner of the blues. Victor is “a force to be reckoned with on a piano. He IS honky-tonk and boogie, with a dose of rolling thunder. Wainwright’s playing is simply beautiful madness,” (American Blues Scene 2013). Victor will be at the Blues Festival along with his guitar player, Nick Black.
Also appearing at tonight’s concert will be the Jonni Ólafs Bluesband, Spottarnir, Johnny and the Rest and various other promising young Icelandic artists.
Thursday April 17th at 8pm. – Hilton Reykjavík Nordica
Egill Ólafsson and members of the band Þursaflokkur, which includes Tómas M. Tómasson, Ásgeir Óskarsson and other surprise guests. We may even get to hear some of the old songs with a Blues twist. The Blue Ice Band will be celebrating their 25th Anniversary at tonight’s concert and they’ll be flaunting their best with Iceland’s Queen of the Blues, Andrea Gylfadóttir and other special guests.

Brynhildur Oddsdóttir and other fresh new talent will be appearing at this evening’s concert.

The Reykjavík Blues Festival  2014 dates are April 12, 2014 – April 17, 2014

the festival opens with “Blues Day” in the city center on Saturday, April 12, 2014. This sets the tone for the festival and includes live blues in different downtown venues. The highlights include surprise performances downtown city center from 2pm – 5pm.

The Reykjavík Blues Festival’s main stage at the Hilton Reykjavík Nordica Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Official afters hours blues club will be at the Hilton Reykjavík Nordica and will be open following the evening main stage concerts .

With Spring comes the Reykjavík Blues Festival

The 2013 Reykjavík Blues Festival  will be held March 23rd – 28th. The headliners at this year‘s festival are Lucky Peterson, his wife Tamara Peterson and the guitar legend Guitar Shorty.

Lucky Peterson is a contemporary blues master and Guitar Shorty is a living legend deeply rooted in traditional, old school blues.

Three evening concerts will be held at the Hilton Reykjavík Nordica, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Tuesday, March 26th – Hilton Reykjavík Nordica at 8:00 pm
Lucky Peterson and Tamara. This duo will bring the house down at this year‘s Reykjavík Blues Festival. For Lucky, the blues runs in his blood. Considered a child prodigy, he started performing at an early age and had released his first record by the age of five. Tamara is a top niche blues singer and amongst the best!

Guitar Shorty is a living legend. A former guitarist for Willie Dixon, Sam Cooke and Ray Charles, Guitar Shorty is one of the most popular and respected bluesmen in the world.  A multi-award winner, Guitar Shorty has performed with the best, including his brother-in-law Jimi Hendrix, Muddy Waters, Koko Taylor, Johnny Winter, Albert King, Junior Wells and James Cotton.

Also appearing are some of Iceland’s best young blues artists.

Thursday, March 28th –  Hilton Reykjavík Nordica at 8:00 pm
The Reykjavík Blues Festival’s 10th Anniversary celebrates the best in  Icelandic blues.

This concert will include performances by top-notch Icelandic blues artists such as Andrea, Blue Ice Band, Bjorn Thoroddsen, Ragnheidur Grondal, Langi Seli and The Shadows and many, many more – a “must see” for music lovers.
